Wyoming Travel

Wyoming? Well I say, why not? There’s not a lot of things you can’t do when you travel to Wyoming, particularly if you’re one of those rugged, outdoor types who likes to see the wonder of nature as it was intended to be. If you’re not one of those rugged, outdoor types you’ll still have a ball if you travel to Wyoming – whatever time of year you make the trip.

Wyoming Travel – Stuff to Do

  • Wyoming Fishing – it doesn’t matter whether you’re a bit of an expert, or a beginner who’s more likely to get all tangled up with your flies, Wyoming has 27,000 miles of fish-able streams, and 4,200 wonderful crystal clear lakes with a wide variety of different fish available (if you can catch them!) – brown trout, rainbow trout, yellow perch, sunfish, pike, sturgeon, whitefish, crappie (no it’s actually quite good). Whether you’re a “fishaholic” or just fancy messing about on the rivers and lakes - fishing in Wyoming is awesome.
  • Wyoming Winter Sports – whether you prefer to charge down a snowy mountain slope on two skis or one snowboard, you won’t go far wrong if you travel to Wyoming for your winter sports fix, and if the downhill slopes look a little too exciting for you, there’s some great cross-country skiing trails too – it’s hard work but perhaps a little less scary – help, no brakes . . .
  • Wyoming Dog Sledding – this sounds like a much more civilized way to travel across the snow of Wyoming to me, although I’ve heard that you’re often travelling in a “tail” wind with a rather interesting aroma.
  • Wyoming Dude Ranches – for the ultimate western experience, you can’t get much better than spending your vacation on a Wyoming Dude Ranch. You must have seen “City Slickers”, well, Billy Crystal soon got the hang of it didn’t he – and you will too, although I’m not sure that you’ll get to take a real live calf home with you. I just love that line when he asked the “real life cowboy” Jack Palance – “did you kill anybody today?” to which he replied – “day ain’t over yet” – his face was a picture. But I digress, don’t let that scare you, a vacation on a Wyoming Dude Ranch will be an experience which you will treasure forever, the sore muscles will heal but the memories will live on and on.
  • Wyoming Horseback Riding – if you think that a week on a dude ranch might be just a little too much for your body to bear, then why not just spend a day horseback riding in Wyoming – it’s the only way to travel and be at one with nature. You’re a bit higher up for spotting things for a start.
  • Wyoming Wildlife Spotting – Wyoming is absolutely bursting with wildlife with its abundance of beautiful National Parks, wilderness and forests. Moose, elk and deer are just about everywhere, you can’t miss them (although please try if they’re on the roads), there are thousands of wild horses, and buffalo are still “roaming in Wyoming” – Question – What’s the difference between a buffalo and a bison? Answer – You can’t wash your hands in a buffalo! I know, I get worse but the old ones are still the best.
  • Hiking in Wyoming – might be equalled in other places of the world, but never bettered. The perfect way to get away from it all.
  • Wyoming Camping – there are some great hotels and lodging houses, but when you travel to Wyoming there is also another popular accommodation option – camping. Now you’re talking.

I hope this has given you a few ideas of what to expect when you travel to Wyoming, but there’s lots more going on too:

  • Rock climbing
  • Hot springs and spas
  • Tours to wonderful caves and caverns
  • frontier days
  • historical native cultural sites
  • canoeing and kayaking
  • rodeos
  • bird watching
  • mountain biking
  • ice climbing
  • golf

There’s one thing that’s absolutely certain, when you travel to Wyoming there’s definitely plenty to occupy the whole family and keep them out of mischief.
